Firefighter/Paramedic Shane McGregor

Adjunct Instructor

With nearly two decades of 911 EMS experience as both a single-cert Paramedic and a Firefighter/Paramedic, I bring a broad and practical perspective to the field. I currently serve with St. Petersburg FD, and throughout my career I’ve worked in several high-volume departments operating under diverse protocols and serving varied patient populations. These experiences have given me a well-rounded understanding of how emergency services function across different systems, and what it truly takes to succeed in the field. Training has always been a central part of my career. In every department I’ve worked in, I’ve been involved in education and mentorship. I’ve spent the majority of my time as a paramedic serving as a preceptor for college programs, helping guide students from the classroom into the realities of the field. Watching new providers grow into confident clinicians is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. My teaching style is hands-on and field-focused. I believe training should mirror real-world scenarios as closely as possible. I lecture from the standpoint of how the job actually works, blending clinical knowledge with practical application and decision-making under pressure. I also believe growth requires ownership. I give students the opportunity to self-reflect and identify where they feel improvement is needed before offering my own feedback. That process builds stronger, more self-aware providers.

Firefighter/Paramedic Dwanue Johnson

Adjunct Instructor

With 25 years of experience in Fire and Emergency services and a current Firefighter at Tampa FD, I bring real-world knowledge from the front lines to the classroom. Throughout my career, I have served as a firefighter/paramedic in operational roles ranging from frontline response to Officer and administrative positions, giving me a broad understanding of emergency services from the field operations to leadership

For the past 16 years, I have also served as an adjunct instructor at Hillsborough College, teaching both lecture and lab courses for EMT and Paramedic students. My goal is to prepare future providers to just pass exams, but to confidently handle real-life emergencies.

I hold a paramedic license and several advanced certifications, including

BLS instructor, ACLS instructor, Critical Care certification, and Emergency Medical Support Officer. I have also served as a team medic for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where I  provided medical support in a high-performance sports environment.

My teaching style is laid back and student centered. I focus on finding ways to help each student understand new material in a way that works best for them. Emergency medicine can be challenging, but I believe that with the right guidance, practical examples, and hands-on experience, every student can succeed and become a confident provider in the field.
